About Scouting

Welcome scouts, future scouts and parents!

W. D. Boyce, while visiting London encountered a Boy Scout who impressed him with his character. He investigated the organization formed by Robert Baden-Powell and brought this idea back to the United States and with Edward S. Stewart and Stanley D. Willis formed the Boy Scouts of America on February 8, 1910. Now Scouting in the U. S. is in it's second century and has expanded to include young Tiger Cubs and through Venturing girls and boys from 14 to 20.

alt Cub Scouts -- This is a family and home centered program for boys in grades 2 through 5 that focuses on ethical decision-making while building confidence and skills from games, crafts, and activities working with family members and with other youth in a sharing environment.  Tiger Cubs participate with Cub Scout packs.  Older Cubs participate in more advanced activities to prepare them to become Boy Scouts.  The youth all participate in dens (groups of 5 to 10 Cubs), and several dens are grouped into a Cub Scout pack.
alt Boy Scouts -- This is a program for boys 11 through 17 that focuses on vigorous outdoor programs and peer group leadership with the counsel and guidance of an adult Scoutmaster.  It endeavors to develop American citizens who are physically, mentally, and emotionally fit; have a high degree of self-reliance, have strong personal values based on religious concepts, and have the desire and skills to help others.
alt Varsity Scouting -- This is a program for young men 14 through 17 built around five fields of emphasis ? advancement, high adventure, personal development, service, and special programs.  It provides options for young men who are looking for rugged high adventure or challenging sporting activities and still want to be a part of a Scouting program that offers the advancement and values of the Boy Scouts of America.
alt Venturing -- This is a program for young men and women who are 14 to 20 years of age to provide positive experiences through exciting and meaningful activities to help youth pursue special interests, grow, and become good citizens.  It includes challenging high-adventure activities, sports, and hobbies for teenagers that help them develop leadership skills, provide opportunities to teach others, and give them an opportunity to learn and grow in a supporting, caring, and fun environment.
